so here's a bunch of sketches for a class assignment - we're supposed to design a playing card.. IN ILLUSTRATOR. not exactly my forte, but i'm going to take a stab at it.

it feels so surreal to see something you've done printed in a book alongside other very crazy awesome art. i'm going to try even harder for the next submission! thank you, Ballistic!

i saw him on the train a couple months ago, and i had to scribble him out. very cool dude, despite being a bit chubby. tote, vest, shirt, oxfords, with a rosary (that i saw at F21!)
i haven't been painting, like painting painting for so long that the results of starting again after such a long hiatus is just godawful D8

a freelance gig i did back in the end of 2010 for a local game studio, Secret Base. some game assets and CG stuff - the illustration here was used as the background image for the menu screen for Tobe's Hookshot Escape, which you can play on Kongregate here.

these were A4 prints sold at a recent local event.
the response was surprisingly better than i thought hurhur
btw if you haven't caught STAR DRIVER, you should. amazing animation with an original story by the good people of Studio Bones *A*

the boss dropped these two postcards on my desk, a campaign to stop overfishing the blue tuna. i thought the ad concept was riveting. the postcards have way more blood though.. @__@

noise on the train
so i was on the train today and i noticed the carriages were plastered with selected works submitted to the Noise Singapore 2011 Festival Showcase. there were some very cool stuff to see, but it was kinda hard to navigate my way up and down the train through the grumpy morning crowd, so i decided against it.

you can view more shots of the works here
i had also submitted some of my work for the showcase, but as i couldnt see any sign of them from where i was gawking, figured that none of them made the cut.
big surprise on Facebook, when i was linked to the album and spotted this:

wow. this is just.. wow. i mean, seriously, wow.
this is the first time i've seen my work displayed in such a public location, and i felt so overwhelmed when i saw it. i am endeavoring to try to get a look in real life on the train before it gets taken down.
this is one of those times when you just feel so.. overcome.
this is when you realize that you want to create even more, to fill the world and inspire it, and just leave an impression on as many people as you can, even if it's just for a moment on a busy train.

merry christmas from this side of the world!
funny, i never thought i'd do anything particular for xmas, but as it turns out, i did.. a couple.. wow. i surprise even me.

this was for a contest over at Parkablogs, a local art book review blog. [highly informative and very useful.] the theme was "kungfu santa", but i don't think i quite caught the essence of "kungfu". owell.

decided to drop by the Singapore Toy, Games and Comic Convention 2010 last week with a friend. appeared pretty late to avoid the crowds, wandered around, bumped into friends and the like.

sketches acquired from the Imaginary Friends Studio booth, where they were providing sketch commissions at 5 bucks apiece.
not a bad deal if you ask me 8D
we asked for four in total, all Street Fighter characters. couldn't think of anything better on the spot, my mind kinda tends to freeze around awesomeness like them.. a pair of Yin and Yang sketches to split between us, and Sakura and Akuma for other people.
also took part in this lucky dip, had to go around obtaining the signatures from various artists present, for a chance to get random art goodies. our bounty was better than expected, we got a print and shirt from IFS!
real life quests ftw :D

what you neglect

Animation Nation 2010 is here again for the week. i missed Genius Party 2 at AN '09 last year, pretty sad. the films this time round seem to be more well-rounded internationally, as compared to the previous times where they were mostly Asian-dominated.

Oblivion Island: Haruka and the Magic Mirror
ホッタラケの島 〜遥と魔法の鏡〜
this is Production I.G.'s first 3d CG production. i loved the concept. it reminds me of a children's book i had when i was little (oh the irony).ホッタラケの島 〜遥と魔法の鏡〜

Metropia
also caught this in the same day. a Swedish sci-fi animation. the overall feel of the film left me feeling distinctly uncomfortable, maybe that was the point. the heavily stylized characters, almost morbid, the grim and post-apocalyptic setting, the somber tone with its underlying messages..both films are definitely worth catching. just try not to watch them in the same day, it gave me some emotional turbulence haha.
